Australia & New zealand

Took over German New Guinea just a few months after the war broke out

 

In November 1914, Australia and New Zealand troops were sent to Egypt and diverted to the suez canal to protect it against the ottoman empire

 

In August 1915, Australian and New Zealand forces assaulted turkish forces at Lone Pine, successfully taking over Lone pine and successfully defended it for 3 days. At the same time, Australian forces attacked Turkish forces at the Nek. However, these attacks  failed. All in all, both attacks resulted in much casualties to the Australian army

 

After a year of fighting, Australian and New Zealand forces were finally pulled out of Anzac cove. After all the fighting, Australia and New Zealand suffered many casualties.

In July 1916, the ANZAC forces arrived in France to aid in the battle of the somme. In the same month, Australian forces attacked German forces in the battle of Fromelles in the hopes of Germany pulling troops away from the somme to defend it. However, this attack failed and resulted in the casualties of over 5000 Australian soldiers.

 

There were many other battles in this period such as the battle of Romani. Australian and New Zealand troops launched an attack on Turkish forces in Romani. In the end, Turkish forces fled and Australian forces took over Romani with only 1000 casualties

 

After a few months, the battle of the somme ended

 

After 6 months, the United states declared war on Germany, and battles broke out once again. The first one was the battle of the Bullecourt. However, under the poor command of a british officer, this battle went completely downhill for the Australians and New Zealanders, losing more than 5,000 men, the biggest loss Australia and New Zealand have suffered so far. This was followed by the second battle of the Bullecourt. After a series of battles, the British and AIF launches a counter against Germans, forcing them to retreat. However, this victory also came with over 7000 casualties

 

Battle of Menin Road: ANZAC troops successfully defeated German forces in Glencourse Wood but once again, suffered more than 4000 casualties as a result.

For the first time, ANZAC I and II forces fought alongside each other in the battle of the Broodseinde. They were successful in capturing German positions but they suffered 6500 casualties

Battle of Amiens: One of the last battles before the end of WW1. This was a response to the Spring offensive by Germany where numerous allied forces united and attacked the German army. This attack was so successful that German General Erich Ludendorff called that day the “black day of the German army in the war”

 

Armistice was finally signed on november 1918. In the end, Australian and New Zealand forces suffered a total of over 6000 deaths and 150000 casualties
